Department of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Education, Energy, Health and Human Services, Interioe, EPA, NASA, NSF 가 참여해서 만들어논 통합 science 웹사이트 입니다.
Science and technology impact our daily lives from new drug discoveries, to interest in the environment in our back yard, to the incorporation of new technologies into business and industry. This creates an enormous demand for scientific and technical information by a very large population with diverse backgrounds. To meet these needs, science.gov provides a gateway to information resources at the U.S. government science agencies.
Science.gov contains reliable information resources selected by the respective agencies as their best science information. Two major types of information are included—selected authoritative science Web sites and databases of technical reports, journal articles, conference proceedings, and other published materials. (The specific content varies by database.) The selected Web sites can be explored from the science.gov homepage. The Web pages and the databases can be searched individually or simultaneously from the search page.
Science.gov was developed by an interagency working group of 14 scientific and technical information organizations from 10 major science agencies. Together these agencies make up the science.gov Alliance. A number of these agencies are members of CENDI, which provides administrative support and coordination for science.gov. These agencies are committed to serving the information needs of the science-attentive citizen, including science professionals, students and educators, business people and entrepreneurs, and members of the public with an interest in science. The Alliance and science.gov were formed to improve and enhance access to information at science agency programs in response to the April 2001 workshop on "Strengthening the Public Information Infrastructure for Science."

미국에는 정말 우수한 싸이트들이 정말 많습니다. 말로만 IT 정부를 외치는 우리나라 정부와는 달리 미국은 누가봐도 실속있는 전자정부를 추진하고 있습니다. 그리고 겉만 번지지르르하고 형식적인것은 거의 볼 수가 없고 실용적이고 필요한 정보를 콘텐츠로 담고 있고 인포 아키텍쳐 또한 수준급입니다. 모 제가 너무 성급한 판단인지도 모르지만 울나라 모기관 싸이트를 들었갔다가 한심해서 말이 안나오더군요.. 무슨 주민번호 쳐넣으라는것도 그렇고 문서도 관료주의식이고 마지못해 만들어놓은 듯한 이미지를 느끼지 않을 수 없더군요.

미국 기관의 싸이트들은 1차 자료로 쓰이는경우가 많습니다. 제가 최근 쓴 논문중에도 이런 웹페이지 어드레스가 레퍼런스로 되어있습니다. 그 구성과 방대함 그리고 유용성등 배울점이 많습니다. PC방 좀 많고 핸드폰 좀 많이 갖고 다닌다고 인터넷 강국이라고 폼잡는게 우습기만 합니다.

또한 네티즌들이 무슨 새로운 획기전인 민주주의를 만들어나가는것처럼 생각하는 사람들이 많은데.. 물론 전혀 틀린 말은 아닙니다. 그러나 지금처럼 각종 루머나 저질 언론에 휩쓸려 선동꾼이 이리저리 선동이나하는것을 민주주의 혁명이라고 하는것 자체가 어불성설인것 같습니다. 보다 객관적이고 참신하고 방대하고 탄탄한 정보 인프라를 구축해주어야 성숙한 네티즌이 생성되고 그 성숙한 네티즌들이 민주주의를 해도 할 수 있다고 생각합니다.
