물리학계에서 가장 많이 인용된 논문은 S. Weinberg 의 전기약력 이론에 관한 논문인것으로 밝혀졌다.
미국 물리학회는 물리학계의 가장 권위있는 논문집으로 평가되는 "Physics review letter" 에 이제까지 개제된 논문 중에서 가장 많이 인용되는 논문을 1위 부터 10위 까지 조사하여 작년 10월 부터 지난 8월 까지 물리학회 소식지에 소개하였다. 이에 따르면 가장 많이 인용된 논문은 S. Weinberg 의 전기약력 이론에 대한 논문으로 4600 여 회 인용된 것으로 알려졌다. 이 이론은 현재 입자물리학에서 물질의 기본 구조를 설명하는 "표준 모형"으로 인정받고 있으며 Weinberg 는 이에 대한 업적을 인정받아 이미 1979년에 Sheldon Glashow, Abdus Salam 과 함께 노벨 물리학상을 수상하였다.
