At the outset of the 105th Congress, The Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, requested that the Science Committee, chaired by James Sensenbrenner , conduct a review of our national science policy and develop a new long-range science and technology policy that is concise, comprehensive, and coherent. Science Committee Vice Chairman Vernon Ehlers was asked to lead this effort in the Committee. Over the past few months, the Committee held a series of hearings, forums, roundtables, and meetings to gather input for the study. The Committee also used this website interactively to solicit contributions from people and organizations who are not able to attend Policy Study activities in person. Now that our report is complete, we would like to thank the many people who took the time to participate in this effort.
