This message from Tom Apple, Vice Provost & Dean of Graduate Education:

Warning to International Students,  I have concerns about our
international students' ability to promptly get back into the country
should they travel abroad.  The admission cases (to the US) reviewed by
the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) went from 1000 to 14,000 after
the DHS assumed controlled of the admission from the Immigration and
Naturalization Service (INS) in March 2003. The review of this caseload
may result in a delay of re-entry to the US of many months.  I would
advise our International students against travel abroad.
