저도 이게 얼마 전이라고 생각을 했었는데, 1년이나 된 얘기 군요^^

미국 현대 자동차 CEO 였던 Finbarr O'Neill 이 작년 9월 초에 미쯔비씨로 옮겨 간 일이 있습니다. 아래는 그 사람의 간단한 프로필 이구요. CEO 였으니 전직은 상관이 없었던 걸까요?

CAREER: Joined Mitsubishi on Sept. 2, 2003, after 18 years at Hyundai Motor America, where he served as CEO from 1998-2003. Had served as general counsel at Hyundai's American arm since its formation in 1985. Before joining Hyundai, worked at Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. as senior attorney.

EDUCATION: Graduated from Columbia University in 1973 and from Fordham University Law School in 1976, where he was an editor of the Law Review.

PERSONAL: A native of Northern Ireland, O'Neill lives in Coto de Caza, Calif., with his wife, Carol. They have four children.

>에엠디와 모토는 같이 기술을 공동개발하기로 합니다.  그런데, 그 와중에 에엠디의 샌더스 회장이 모토의 기술개발 책임자 헥터를 자신의 후계자로 낙점하게 됩니다.  헥터는 만약 자신이 샌더스의 후계자가 되지못할 경우 거액의 주식을 보상으로 받는 조건으로 에엠디로 옮겨갑니다.  기술 개발 책임자이지만, 당근 전직금지 이런 것 없습니다.

>게다가 몸이 달은 모토는 헥터에게 헥터의 똘만이들을 데려가지 않는 조건으로 거액의 보상금을 제시합니다.  헥터는 당근 받아먹었지요.  그리고는 몇 개월 후 똘만이인지는 모르겠지만, 모토의 재정담당부사장이 다시 에엠디로 자리를 옮깁니다.  당근 전직금지 이런 것 없지요.  열받은 모토는 (안그래도 장사도 안된는 데...) 소송을 제기합니다.  전직금지에 대한 소송이 아니라 보상금도 줬는 데 넘 치사한 거 아니냐라는 게 소송의 요지입니다.  에임디 대변인은 그래도 같이 기술을 개발하는 우리는 여전히 친구라고 생각한다고 생깝니다.

>그리고 삼년후인 2003년초 에엠디는 모토를 버리고 아이비엠과 차세대 기술을 공동개발하기로 해버립니다.  지난 주에는 다음 세대 기술까지 아이비엠과 계속 개발하기로 했다는 기사가 나오죠. 모토는 기술 개발 책임자가 날라버린 이후로 아주 아작이 나버렸습니다.  뭐, 헥터 한 사람 때문만은 아니지만 말입니다.

>아참, 혹시 오해가 있을 지도 몰라서 덧 붙입니다.  헥터 드 루이즈는 멕시코 태생으로 빈민촌에서 태어나 온갖 경제적인 어려움을 극복하고 티아이에서 잠시, 모토에서 28년을 거쳐 마침내 에엠디의 짱이 된 사람으로 모토의 엔지니어를 수없이 해고하면서 허리케인 헥터라는 별명을 얻기도 했지만, 개인적으로는 자신이 졸업한 멕시코의 학교를 후원하고, 히스패닉학생들에게 장학금을 지급하는 등 활발한 사회활동을 하는 나쁘게만은 볼 수 없는 사람입니다.
